The sex manual for people with dwarfismby Annalisa Lista - 2014.08.01
The sexuality of people with dwarfism is a taboo within a taboo. A veil of silence prevails over this disability more than any other. Just a few international specialists have broken through the silence. One of them is Dr Marylou Naccarato, an American sexologist who has written a sex manual for those with the condition.
Dr Naccarato, who also has a rare form of dwarfism, is a true pioneer in the field. She got involved almost by accident. In fact, while she was watching a television programme about sexuality and disability, she decided to change careers, from her job at the Inland Revenue to become a qualified doctor.
With the aim of making sex less painful and more enjoyable for those with dwarfism, the leader of the Little People of America Community has written a guide with 17 ideal positions. The detailed manual ranges from a section on personal hygiene, to the most stimulating foreplay techniques, as well as important ways to avoid infections, the perfect vocabulary for sexual intercourse and the best ways of building self confidence in oneself and one's body.
The guide also gives advice on specialist sex toys for sale online for (auto)eroticism and minimising pain in the hips and back, which is common for people living with this disability. Some of the most original ideas include the Love Bench, which Dr Naccarato has patented. It's a very low, Japanese-style bed, suitable for a variety of uses such as gymnastic exercises or for moments of intimacy with a partner. Next on the horizon for the enterprising doctor is a documentary about the sexuality of people with dwarfism, which is in the pipeline for 2015.
