The Italian Decree adapting national legislation to the new EU Regulation on products for coeliacs has been published in the Official Gazette. In particular, as far as gluten-free food labeling is concerned, the measure by the Ministry of Health adopts the following new wordings introduced in Europe "gluten-free, specially formulated for people with celiac disease" and "gluten free, specifically formulated for people intolerant to gluten". In the light of this legislative development, as stated in the document, "in order to maintain the current system of supplementary health care for foods intended to people with celiac disease, people suffering from congenital metabolic diseases or cystic fibrosis and those born to HIV-infected mothers, the ministerial decree June 8, 2001 must be amended”.
