Homeless people in Italy are 50,724. This is the number of homeless people who between November and December 2014 turned to at least a canteen or a night shelter in the 158 Italian municipalities which were surveyed. This is the second census of this type carried out by the Italian Institute of Statistics, in collaboration with the Ministry of Welfare, the fio.PSD and the Caritas. It showed that the majority of homeless people in this Country became so after losing their job of as a consequence of divorce. They are, for the most part, men (85.7%), immigrants (58.2%), with a low level of education (only 1/3 has at least a diploma), aged under 54 years (75.8%) and living in the North-West (38%). Milan and Rome are still the Italian cities that welcome the majority of homeless people: respectively 23.7% and 15.2%. While Palermo ranks third (5.7%).
