In the top 250 Hollywood films, 9% of the directors were women in 2012. According to the Centre for the Study of Women in Television and film, women represent only 18% of all directors, executive producers, writers, cinematographers and editors. As a shining example, there is any woman on the Oscar’s shortlist for best director this year. Zero Dark Thirty is even the only film nominated, in the best picture category, which was directed by a woman. The only one who had won the Oscar of the best director, Kathryn Bigelow. The Cannes Film Festival had proposed the same scenario in 2012, when the list of nominees for the Palme d’Or was entirely composed of male directors. However, women would be more present in documentary, drama and animated film. A different study has also showed that they are more involved in the independent film sector.
