IPH study
The weakness of the stronger sex

The evils come never alone. The Irish people knows it good, as in addition to  the unemployment rate, another data is increasing, this of people with mental and disorder illness. A phenomenon which, surprisingly, affects mainly the men of the green island. According to a National Health Institute’s study there is a correlation between the rates of male suicide and the crisis in the labour market. To the point that the number of suicides increased from 379 in 2009 to 427 in 2010. Furthermore the research  shows a significant increase of levels of stress and anxiety, especially among those who have lost jobs or have fear to lost it, often related to excessive consumption of alcohol or drugs. Concerns about the future also cause a general deterioration of physical health, the development of family conflicts as well as some symptoms of depression as the reluctance to seek help.
