Like turtles

It happens sometimes that people in poor economic conditions develop a real complex of self-marginalization from society. Instead of addressing their difficulties they retract into their shells like turtles. A phenomenon evidenced by the behavior of many British mothers of poor families who out of fear even avoid coming face to face with those more fortunate than themselves. According to a study by the University of Bristol, in fact, it is not only the inability to cope with the fees that pushes many parents belonging to the most needy groups of the society to oust their young ones from post-school leisure activities. But just a sense of real shame of incurring a severe criticism, or even the risk of being shunned by other parents. A phenomenon that involves a growing number of poor families who are victims of this sort of paranoia from social exclusion, who end up aggravating the already difficult plight of their children.
