In France, 21% of the children of immigrants live below the poverty line, essentially the double (10.6%) than those who have both French parents. This emerged from an Insee’s study, which also calculates the average annual income of children of immigrants, € 19,570, and that concerning French people’s ones € 22,810 (+14%). This gap in wealth is in large part due to the highest unemployment rate among the descendants of immigrants (11%) compared with natives (7%). In addition, young workers with foreign origins, especially those with African parents, are far less numerous than the children of the French citizens to occupy managerial positions or to work in intermediate professions. However, it is interesting to be underlined that the young generations with European origins have a standard of living similar to the average of the rest of the population, and even higher than 6% for the over-25 people.
