Perceived more as an expense rather than a gain, the no-profit sector is a real source of wealth for the French economy. According to the latest data of the Institute of National Statistics (INSEE), in fact, institutions of the Third Sector, in 2008, have employed 900,000 people, 3%of employees’ total number. In strictly financial terms, they have paid about €23 billion in taxes and invested €17 billion in assets, producing and distributing for free, services for a total cost of €40 billion. The association reviewed by INSEE work in particular in sectors such as education, sport and culture as well as disabled services. In total, the no-profit and the institutional sectors contribute equally to the production of social services.
