In times of economic hardship we know, everything seems to be allowed, but replacing paid work with the volunteer one is certainly not so noble. It seems that since in the Old Continent the coffers of states do not enjoy good health, this practice has had a strong surge. The European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) warned about the abuse of the use of young volunteers to replace employees who were fired because of the crisis. The simplicity with which this it is put into practice it is due to the fact that people who are engaged in a voluntary occupation often suffer from a lack of legal protections. If this is added to the attractive promises of a boss about a possible future salary, becomes impossible to say no. However, just in the European non-profit dedicated year this practice is likely to weaken the role of volunteers and the role of the welfare state. Because the activity of the third sector should be complementary to that of the services and not replace them.
