The German strategy against unemployment it is so simple, yet effective: do-it-yourself. Over the past 20 years, the number of self-employed workers is, in fact, grew by more than 40%, to reach 4.3 million share in 2011. For the citizens of the federation, therefore, the current severe economic crisis is an opportunity to invest more in themselves. The data made available by the Deutsches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung also stress three important developments. The first, in the Lander of the former East Germany has a higher rate of entrepreneurship than the national average. So much so that since 1990 the army of VAT has increased by almost 60%. Also note, that among those who decided to do business as much as 41% are women versus 33% in 1996. Last but not least, the under-25 account for almost 10% of those new business owners.
