Ethnicity makes the difference

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that the Slovak authorities have to pay € 43 thousand to a woman of Roma origin who has undergone a process of sterilization without being clearly informed and aware of other contraceptive methods. The judges believe that the girl’s ethnicity has played a key role in the medical decision. So much so that they also refer to the existence of this practice in the country at the time of the communist regime.
