Prisoners Job Act
Puritan hardness

The British Government has found a new idea to support the gradual reintegration of prisoners into the labor market and at the same time, compensate the victims. As part of programs that allow prisoners to carry out an activity within the walls of prisons, from September 2011 it is expected that a portion of their salary is donated to a fund for compensation of those who have suffered an injustice. If any of these special workers receive more than £20 (approx €23) will have to pay a tax of 40% on the surplus, which will go to the national “Victim Support”. According to statistics in the United Kingdom there are 87 thousand prisoners, but only 9 thousand are employed full time. Recently, both the political and civil society are being questioned on two fronts. The first, concerns the implementation of the job places. The second, the amount of wages. Because, doing for granted that inmates should not deal with costs, the salary, for 40 hours per week, it rarely exceed the £28 (approx €32). That is 8 times less than the minimum wage established by law for all other workers.
