“An important step towards creating a true common area of justice that protect women especially when traveling in Europe”. With this words it was commented the Directive on the European Protection Order (EPO) after its final approval. The new legislation requires that decisions taken for the protection of victims of gender violence, harassment, kidnapping, stalking and attempted murder issued by an EU member state are also applicable in the other, without borders. Ad-hoc measures already exist in all countries. But until now ceased to have effect if the injured party abandoned their homeland. From today, however, if for example, a German citizen was forbidden to attend the places where the victim lives or works, the national authority which adopts such measure must inform the protected person about the opportunity to ask an EPO if decided to move to in another EU country, so as to be protected in the same way. The states now have three years to transpose the directive into national law.
