A Forum on Patronage and Pluralism in the Primary Sector was established this week in Ireland with the aim of ensuring that primary schools can cater for children of all religions and none. Up until now, the range of primary schools on offer has certainly not been diverse, with vast majority of Irish primary schools under the patronage of the Catholic church.  This Forum would aim to see up to half of these move away from Catholic patronage, although this will have to be done in a way that is not extremely costly to the state, considering Ireland’s current financial situation.
