Despite the heavy current financial crisis, the Catalans are always less nationalistic and more welcoming to immigrants. It is revealed in an half-year investigation by the City of Barcelona. Among citizens, questioned on economic and social issues affecting the city, the Autonomous Community of Catalonia and Spain, only 5.3% consider immigration a real threat to society. It is the lowest figure since 2007. At the same time, almost all respondents (95%) claims to be more concerned for the welfare of the whole country, rather than their region, thus removing one of the theories used by the propaganda of the main nationalist parties. Far from being duped by the rhetoric of politicians, citizens of Barcelona are quite alarmed by practical and current issues. Such as unemployment, working conditions and fear of losing their jobs (31.1% of respondents), insecurity (15.0%) and the overall economy (9.3%).
