Even homosexuals should have the right to adopt their partner’s children. This day, the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has given a verdict in which it is specified that homosexual couples must benefit to the same principle than unmarried heterosexual couples. This verdict answers to an appeal of an Austrian women couple and the son of one of them against their Government. Austria was found guilty of discrimination concerning sexual orientation, infringing the articles 14 and 18 of the European Convention. Besides, Vienna has not been able to demonstrate a significant difference in the minors’ protection between heterosexual and homosexual couples. This decision will also be applied in the 47 member states of the Council of Europe.
