In Italy, tormenting a homosexual couple to the point of forcing them to change apartment, constitutes stalking. For this reason, the Court in Turin, Italy, sentenced a man to prison for one year, due to his having threatened and persecuted his gay neighbors from the first moment they arrived in the apartment complex. Using phrases like, “we need to block these queers on the staircase and beat them” or “these two fags have to get the hell out of here one way or another!”, he provoked a serious state of anxiety and fear that caused the couple to change their habits. The persistent continuation of the violent attacks eventually led to the separation of the couple. The role the “man’s statements played in contributing to a heavy climate of intimidation among all of the other neighbors, in response to the couple“, also contributed to the Judge’s sentence.
