A medal for active aging. The program “Bien vieilli vivre ensemble”, promoted by the Ministry of social cohesion, decorated 38 French cities with the label “grandfather friendly” for the good practices put in place to combat the social exclusion of older people. The most virtuous villages of 2011 have invested in infrastructure but also in services. In the city of Dax, for example,a free bus allows old people to reach the city center using a personalized service that drives them from their homes in the performance of some base activities such as medical examination and the daily shopping. The initiative, launched in 2009, aims to support cities in the management problems of an aging population by promoting best practices and initiatives that improve the dialogue between generations.
