Farewell to pointed Prussian helmet

Countdown to the new voluntary service (BFD). From July 1, with the end of conscription, will enter into force in Germany, the reform of the volunteering, that will become federal competence. There are three important changes. First, participation in the BFD does not replace  military service anymore, so it won’t be compulsory. While it will remain open to young people of both sexes, will no longer be limited to one year. Young people engaged in this activity should ensure, in fact, a commitment from a minimum of 6 to a maximum of 24 months and will be granted a monthly allowance of €330 and health insurance. In addition, it is removed the age limit of 27 further extending the possible candidates. The only requirement to apply is to have completed compulsory school. The old civil service, however, is not retiring. For both types there will be this year, according to recent statements by the Family Minister Helga Roesgen, 35thousand available places.
