Everyone For Themselves And God For Us All

In the Belgian society there is no more room for either family or intergenerational solidarity. This emerged from a recent survey conducted by Delta Lloyd Life, according to which 61% of children declared they do not want to take their sick parents in. Even in case of financial difficulties, young people are reluctant to support their mums and dads: 57% of them, indeed, do not help their parents financially. A percentage reaching 64% in the Flanders. What is much more surprising, however, is that parents do the same. Indeed, the vast majority of parents (59%) do not lend a single euro to their children. And a feeble 3% of them make plans to put aside some money to leave their children a little after-death inheritance.
