Disability and discriminations in France
Discriminations against disabled people remain widespread in France, particularly amongst young people. This is the main finding of an Insee study conducted on a sample of 28,500 French citizens. Among disabled people aged between 10 and 24 years, 41% claimed to have been at least once in their life victim of discrimination, far more than the percentage concerning the over-25. As for the sort of discrimination experienced, it goes from insults to mockeries, to denied access to public services. 50% of unemplyed with disability believe that their handicap penalizes their search for jobs. Moreover more than half of those with cognitive or sensory deficiencies lament episodes of marginalization. The study signals a broader category of discriminations linked to health problems unrelated to a real disability as for squinty or allergic children.
