After the “baby shower”, the party in which guests bring presents for the new coming baby, there is a new vogue in UK: “foetus-party”. In this new fashion party relatives and friends meet up together to watch the ultrasound’s 3D or 4D images of the coming baby. The phenomenon is already exploded in France and is now possible to find hundreds of gadgets for the event. Fridge magnet at the price of £ 3 as well as teddy bear for only £ 15. The Royal College of Midwives is strongly deprecating the fact that pregnancy is turning into a show and that is becoming another way to make money. Moreover, the organization is also underlining two negative implication of this practice. Firstly, the exposure of the embryo to ultrasounds could provoke serious harms to the brain and to the reproductive organs of the fetus. Secondly, there is the risk to increase the mother’s expectation that could be after disregarded because of an unattended pregnancy interruption or because of a fetus’ malformation.
