Disabilities, from words to action
More than a hundred steps to the inclusion of disabled people. This is the new “Aktionsplan” in North Rhine-Westphalia, launched by the red-green government of the German region. Approximately 250 pages that contain concrete measures to improve participation in the daily lives of 2.6 million disabled people living in the region. By the fall of architectural barriers at train stations, subway and bus to the construction of apartments designed specifically for people with disabilities, through the increase of employment opportunities. Objectives that will be achieved by 2020. Shorter deadline, however, regarding “inclusive” schools. Currently, 20% of disabled children attending a public school instead of a Förderschule, special institutes reserved for students with disabilities. A percentage that, the regional government wants to improve with the construction of new schools and Kita equipped with facilities for disabled children during the school year 2013-14.
