West is an Internet journal providing information in Italian and English

West was conceived for:
- making information on Welfare policies as relevant as within the society;
- informing according to technological and language procedures, so as to enable the comparison of social policies between Italy and EU Member States, concerning:

  • IMMIGRATION AND ASYLUM
  • EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
  • FAMILY
  • POVERTY AND SOCIAL INCLUSION
  • ELDERLY
  • MINORS
  • PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
  • ADDICTIONS
  • YOUTH
  • CIVIL SOCIETY

West is a sought-after product which so far has been impossible to find on the market of social communication.

West adopts technological solutions enabling:
- the document platform to have the necessary flexibility to manage increasing flows of information until reaching full coverage of the 27 EU Member States, without changing the applicative profile;
- the system to receive from all Member States and, simultaneously, transmit the same stock of news in all Member States both in their native language and in English.

Apart from Italy West has correspondents in Belgium, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Romania and Spain.

Why West

Because to face the increasing fragmentation of interests and the multiplication of the decision-making bodies of modern social policies (community, national and local ones) only a communication model able to provide daily and timely free-of-charge information “for all on anything” in different languages can guarantee the guidance unity and consistency, which in other historical frameworks were the task of the central State’s administrations.

Because, above all in Italy, central and local administrations show a progressive backing in the field of information, due to increasing budget constraints and to a low flexibility of its organisational structure. In most cases it limits itself to provide a close-circuit communication, since it is forced to be on the defensive. It is a self-referential communication.
This makes it very difficult, or rather impossible, for Italy to manage to know what other countries do, and for the latter to get to know (not in Italian) the numerous projects, the new ideas and the latest achievement of our welfare policy.

Because today welfare policies not only concern social cohesion but also production. Indeed the impact that demographic or family policies, older people or migrants have on competitiveness levels of modern economic and productive systems cannot be denied.

Because the provision of person-oriented services can increase its quality standards only via information.

Because today competition on the service market, which is rich but not much accessible, is blocked by information protectionism. To be competitive information is needed: detailed, reliable and timely news on the procedures, deadlines and participation requirements in calls, tenders and competitions.
