MAKS
A sudoku against Alzheimer’s

A crossword a day keeps Alzheimer’s out of the way, or at least slows down its symptoms. It is the result of a new therapy called MAKS. That replaces traditional medicinal with gardening, sudoku, song or kitchen. For a year, in fact, groups of patients have participated in such activities for two hours a day from Monday to Saturday. The result? To the surprise of the medical staff, at the end of the program, the degree of dementia of these people has remained unchanged compared to the 12 months earlier. Unlike what occurs normally, therefore the process of disease progression was literally “frozen”. The experiment confirms the assumption that keeping the mind trained can improve its functionality. German researchers, who have promoted MAKS, now target the export of the special treatment outside Bavaria.
