A retired Country

In Italy in 2008, retirement benefits have cost a total of € 241.109 million, representing 15.38% of the GDP, 0.31% more than in 2007. The total expenditure has increased by 3.5% over the previous year, particularly for civil invalidity (+6.5%) and old age pensions (+4.2%). This is what emerges from the survey realized by INPS in collaboration with ISTAT, according to which pensioners in Italy are 16.8 million, of which 11.4 million are beneficiaries of old age pensions. The majority of them is composed by women, but men earn more: € 17,137 against € 11,906 per year
