In Germany about 2 millions of kids have a mother or a father with a mental disease. There is however a problem within the problem. In most of the cases the patients do not confess to their doctors that they have one or more children. For the fear of seeing them left in the social services’ care or hospitalized at the infantile mental health ward. A secret that however risks to damage the psycho-physical development of the children. The latter, unaware of mum’s or dad’s sickness are thus forced to a difficult everyday life, full of emotional trauma without an appropriate sanitary assistance on behalf of the health personnel. The result is that in such cases the little ones are particularly exposed to inherit the parents’ pathology. The alarm is sent out by a team of researchers at the University of Bremen.
